01The building

Design, tooling, lay-up, cure, trimming and assembly all happen under one roof. A part moves from one stage to the next without being packed, shipped or handed to another company.

The company relocated to this unit and brought the autoclave with it, physically moved across and installed alongside the cleanroom, the walk-in freezer and the finishing rooms.

Finished parts leave here for customers across the UK and around the world.

02Stage by stage

The route a part takes.

Lay-up, cure, release, trim and assembly each have a space of their own.

01

Design and scanning

Where the geometry comes from: your CAD, your drawing, or a scan of the part itself on our Creaform HandySCAN 3D.

02

3D printing

Tooling, jigs, fixtures and prototypes, printed on our Stratasys Fortus 450mc.

03

Walk-in freezer

Prepreg is kept frozen until it is needed, in a 2.4 by 2.4 metre walk-in freezer.

04

Cleanroom

Temperature controlled, and where every ply is laid by hand to the ply book.

05

Autoclave and ovens

A 1.5 by 3 metre autoclave with 18 vacuum lines and 2 sensor lines, and two out-of-clave ovens beside it.

06

Release and breakout room

A separate room where cured parts come off their tools.

07

Trim room

Where parts are cut to their finished edge, kept apart from everything that needs to stay clean.

08

Assembly room

Temperature controlled, for bonding and assembly, and for building up parts larger than the autoclave from cured sections.

04Instruments

The scanner and the printer.

Two instruments with published specifications. These are the manufacturers' figures.

The Creaform HandySCAN 3D figures are verified against VDI/VDE 2634 part 3 in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory. The Stratasys Fortus 450mc runs fourteen thermoplastics, and which we use depends on the part and what we hold in stock. Both sets of figures describe the instruments, not finished parts. The tolerance achievable on a component depends on its size, geometry and tooling, so tell us about the part and we will tell you what is realistic for it.
